From Gumbinnen, a city in old East Prussia (now the Russian city of Gusev) to the 37-acre homestead in Bismark (later renamed Collinsvale), to the sunny hills of Southern California, this site follows the life of Emmanuel Brandstater (1836) and his descendents, from 1872 to present day.

Carolina Brandstater (called “Aunt Lena”); had arthritis; lived with parents; spinster. Gustav Adolph Brandstater (later “Uncle Arthur”); second son, studied in Battle Creek; church man. Friedrich (“Fritz”) Brandstater: a loner, lived solitary, single life in Tasmania. Wilhemine (Darko) Brandstater; wife of Emanuel Jr, mother of eight sturdy, offspring; also an immigrant from Prussia.
